Charity fête is a summer sizzler!
Jul 12, 2018
Well who’d have thought it? It turns out when it comes to summer fêtes, there can be such a thing as almost too much sun! Such was the case on Sunday 8 July, when the James Hopkins Trust (JHT) held their annual summer fête in their grounds at Kites Corner in Barnwood, Gloucester. As part of our charity partnership with JHT, the Paish Tooth team supported the event by running a stall selling Pimm’s and lemonade, plus scones, jam and clotted cream, with all proceeds going towards JHT. Our stall was one of over a dozen others, including tombolas, a raffle, games, toys, face painting, ice cream, a BBQ and a host of popular film and cartoon characters.
Many keen visitors came along despite the relentless 28 degree heat, and all the children had a great time – it was lovely to see families enjoying much fun and laughter together. We were very impressed with the mascots dressed up in what must have been stifling hot costumes, in order to show the kids such a lovely time! There was a fantastic army of volunteers working hard in their bright orange JHT shirts, and our refreshing Pimm’s and lemonade proved popular with both visitors and other stall holders alike. We also had delicious scones, jam and clotted cream on offer, with thanks to Cotteswold Dairy for kindly donating the clotted cream. At one point our metal cash box became so baked in the sun that the coins inside were too hot to handle! I think the grown ups would have happily joined the children who were having a fabulous splash in the paddling pools!
It was a really wonderful and happy afternoon, and we’re delighted the fête proved to be a highly successful fundraising event for JHT who raised a remarkable £4,000, to which the Paish Tooth team have been able to contribute a further £110. We really enjoyed being involved and look forward to supporting JHT again soon.
